What’s it all about?

LiTTLE ARCHITECT workshops are interactive sessions where children can get involved in a variety activities, including:

  • Master-planning

  • Way-finding & mapping

  • Exploration of our past, present and future environment

  • Designing: through sketching, scale drawing, model making, crafting

  • Understanding ‘community’ and ‘place-making’

  • Sustainable architecture and designing for a healthy planet

  • Cultural appreciation; comparing our communities to those of other countries

  • Psychology of space

  • Role-play and storytelling

Children are taught new skills in an imaginative way, leading them through the process of an ‘Architectural Project’, whilst giving them the tools they need to explore their own ideas, consider how we can influence human behaviour through design and, crucially, why it’s important to think carefully about how we can look after our planet.

Our ‘Why’ . . .

We live in one of the most exciting times in history in terms of educational opportunities, technological advancements, scientific research, human rights and democratic society.

Society is defined as: ‘the aggregate of people living together in a more or less ordered community.’

For the most part, a ‘community’, or ‘a group of people living in the same place’, has the power to significantly influence human behaviour and activity. Communities evolve over time and are often defined through, or a result of, their environment.

We also live in a very delicate time of humanity where crime is a dreadful daily occurrence, the media have the power to influence our thoughts and beliefs, climate change is pandemic and mental health illnesses affect 1 in 4 in the UK.

The built environment and the manipulation of the urban fabric of our towns and cities has the incredible power to influence society.

Architects, Urban Designers, Engineers, Planners and other professionals within the construction and design industries have the unique skill-set and expansive imaginations necessary to invoke positive change in the world.

The aims of the LiTTLE ARCHITECT programme are to:

  1. Introduce the foundations of Architecture

  2. Explain the role of an Architect and other associated disciplines in the ‘real’ world

  3. Give children the opportunity to explore their own ideas and nurture their creative talents

  4. Create an environment where children work both independently and collaboratively as a team – increasing confidence and awareness of shared success
